ConsoleWorks 3.0 comes with a number of new options, some brand new features and some major enhancements to existing features. Taken together they make ConsoleWorks a leader in both console management and in the quest for compliance.
New Options
- External Authentication – External Authentication provides a robust, configurable interface to existing infrastructure authentication mechanisms such as Microsoft Windows utilizing shared library technology. External authentication helps solve the security requirements in regulatory compliance acts such as SOX and CIP 02-09.
- Signed Log Files – this new feature creates a digital signature which verifies that ConsoleWorks wrote a log entry and that the entry remained intact and unaltered.
- Database Repository Interface – this feature enables you to export ConsoleWorks data to any Open Database Connectivity compliant database. This feature can be useful in helping you to take aggregated data from all of your managed devices and applications and report on it in real-time.
- ConsoleWorks Availability Module - The Availability Module receives real-time input, collects historical detail, and provides management reporting for monitored systems, devices and/or applications.
- SNMP Poll – The SNMP Poll option enables you to manage SNMP polling activities from within ConsoleWorks by using the GET, SET, or WALK commands. This Console type works with any SNMP tool, including UCX or NET-SNMP, which sends a character stream to the SNMP-capable device.
- Event Correlation – this new feature enables you to configure ConsoleWorks to trigger an Event after another Event has occurred one or more times over a given time period. For example, if ConsoleWorks sees events from a monitored motion detector, a monitored building alarm, and a monitored system, device or application from the network, then it will alert you to a security event based on the correlation.
New Feature
- Quiet Console Alarm – this event alerts you when a console has not sent or received information in a specified amount of time. Use the Quiet Console Alarm as an early-warning system to quietly monitor Consoles for black-out failures: devices that ceased operating before they could report the problem.
- XML Import/Export – this import/export feature allows easy exchange of ConsoleWorks configurations in a user editable format based on the XML standard.
Enhanced Features
- Password Duration – password lifetime allows setting a time limit on valid passwords
- Password Strength – passwords may be set to require the use of lower case, alpha-numeric, and special characters
Enhanced Usability
- Event Search - event search provides a search mechanism for finding a specific event from large numbers of events
- Log File Pagination – log files now contain a pagination view at both the top and the bottom of the file. You can also use event search in the log files in order to find a specific event quickly. Log File Pagination also has a Save feature where you can save the currently viewed log.
- License Identification – license identification provides a list of all of the ConsoleWorks licenses so that you can easily identify what licenses you currently own and how many connection licenses you are currently using plus how many connection licenses you have available for future use.
Enhanced Event Handling
- Windows Event Forwarder (WEF) – the WEF has been enhanced to better handle a large number of events and allows all event logs from a Windows system to be forwarded to ConsoleWorks.
- Event Schedule and Event Action Reports – the event schedule provides you with an easy way to list the events where you have scheduled events. The event action reports provides you with a quick reference list where you can find a list of actions that have been associated with specific events.
- Selectable Scan Load on IEMs – you can now import specified scans from an Intelligent Event Module (IEM) without importing the entire set of scans. This allows you to load the scans relevant to your environment rather than loading an entire set of scans that may not be useful to you.
